Artists often draw on experiences, the Detroit Institute of Arts writes, be it personal or political, from the aesthetic to the commercial, from the individual to the collective, from the spiritual to the material.
Now through Sunday, Oct. 3, the DIA is displaying the Experience & Expression exhibit.
The installation is divided into three sections: Abstraction and figuration; experimentation with traditional and novel materials and the definition of self and others.
Deadline Detroit photojournalist Michael Lucido toured the exhibit with curator Valerie Mercer.
