Ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick To Speak at Oakland County GOP Dinner

August 14, 2024, 12:03 AM

In his continuing effort to show gratitude to the Republican party, Ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will be a featured speaker at the Oakland County Lincoln Day Dinner in Novi on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The dinner will also feature Dr. Ben Carson, a former cabinet member in the Trump administration. Individual tickets are $125.

Kilpatrick, who had been a Democrat in the state legislature, has shown gratitude to Donald Trump ever since he commuted his 28-year prison sentence to time served in January 2021, just as Trump was leaving the White House. He ended up serving nearly eight years in prison.

Since then, Kilpatrick has appeared at a Trump rally and endorsed the ex-president. The Trump campaign announced the endorsement in June.

In an interview with Deadline Detroit in January 2022 on Livernois in Detroit, Kilpatrick expressed his appreciation for Trump for commuting his sentence:

"Who could ever not be thankful for him being in that position at that time and for him helping me."

Trump was also scheduled to speak this weekend at the Huntingon Place where other featured speakers include Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene and Trump confidant Steve Bannon.
