A Wayne County Circuit Court jury earlier this week found an intoxicated Romulus driver guilty in the death last year of Vivian Carmody, 68, and the injuring of her husband, Eastern Market CEO Dan Carmody.
The incident happened while the couple walked to dinner on Detroit’s east side, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Jacob Mraulak, who was 28 at the time of the incident, was convicted of operating while intoxicated causing death, reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing serious injury, the Freep reports. Sentencing is set for Oct. 18.
Authorities charged that he was driving against traffic on East Lafayette near St. Aubin on Aug. 18, 2023 when he veered onto the sidewalk and struck the couple.
Vivian Carmody died and her husband underwent surgery on his leg and ankle, the Freep reports.
