Detroit fashion designer Langston Howard, 16, appeared Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

His appearance was part of a Black History Month feature, "Generation Rising," which highlights young creators and innovators.

"Good Morning America" co-host Michael Strahan introduced him, saying he developed a brand, "The Top," to motivate and inspire.

At just 12, Howard went on YouTube to learn how to design and run his own brand. His very first fashion sketch was a denim jacket with a lion on the back.

"And from there, it just got better," he said in a video played before his live appearance on the show with Strahan.

At the end of his appearance, Howard was given a $10,000 check from the American clothing brand PacSun.

His website talks about his brand:

Launched in March 2022, The Top is the brainchild of a 14-year-old dynamo, an 8th grader named Langston Rey Howard. Inspired by a family legacy of successful business owners, including his dad, grandfather, aunt, and great grandmothers, Langston ventured into entrepreneurship at the tender age of five. He started by selling his artwork to friends and family, setting the stage for a journey marked by relentless passion and commitment to excellence.
