Mary Sheffield on Monday proposed her first budget as Detroit mayor, calling for a slight property tax cut, increased funding for public transportation, and a pay hike for city workers, BridgeDetroit reports.
Sheffield's proposed $3 billion budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year also includes new streetlights and sidewalks, as well as extended late-night hours at recreation centers. She presented the budget at a special session of the City Council.
Bridge notes that it is Detroit’s 13th balanced budget since exiting bankruptcy and is 1 percent smaller than the previous year due to sluggish revenue growth.
